When Nietzsche Wept

~You have your way.  I have my way.  As for the right way, the correct way and the only way, it does not exist. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Magical.” –Washington Post Book World

“The best dramatization of a great thinker’s thought since Sartre’s The Freud Scenario.” –Chicago Tribune

From renowned psychiatrist, Irvin D. Yalom, acclaimed author of The Schopenhauer Cure and Love’s Executioner, the international bestseller When Nietzsche Wept is a richly imagined tale of two brilliant and enigmatic men plumbing the depths of their psyches to discover the redemptive power of friendship.

I absolutely loved this book!  It is a true psychological thriller.  I do not mean thriller as in constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat, but as in it really makes you think!  It twists and turns, keeping you on your psychological tippy toes.  It is definitely chalked full of drama, so if you are into drama, you would love this book also.  One of the most unique reads I have picked up in a long time.

I am an avid reader, so it is a bit difficult for me to find books which will hold my interest all the way through.  Even rarer, to find one I cannot put down and walk away from for a period of time.

For example, I can be somewhat ADD when reading, if a book cannot hold my attention.  I have at least seven books on my bookshelf at this very moment, which have bookmarks stashed inside of them, noting where I last left off.  Someday, I might go back and finish them.  However, this one I read cover to cover and I was completely engrossed the entire time!

Irvin Yalom is the author of many of my counseling textbooks and is a well-known psychiatrist.  One of my professors at school professes her love for him and his work all the time.  I was not sure what to expect from a psychiatrist turned novel writer, but it was spectacular.

Absolutely fabulous read.  It is on my recommendation list for sure!
